Supercell has announced a major update for Clash Royale that adds a new maximum card level (Level 16) on November 24, 2025. This means veteran players who had fully upgraded cards will now have a new upgrade target for them: cards can be taken beyond the previous caps (Level 14 / Level 15 in some cases) up to Level 16. At the same time, Supercell is now simplifying the upgrade system by removing certain magic resources (such as Magic Books, Elite Wild Cards and Magic Coins as well) and consolidating progression into a smaller set of core materials (cards + gold + standard wildcards / gems). This might sound good as consolidating resources would be welcomed by players, but players are now largely upset because the removal of these items comes with a significant reduction in overall progression speed, especially for free-to-play (F2P) players.

The developer also announced temporary caps for 'Ranked' play (Ranked battles remain capped at Level 15 for a period) and is introducing other features such as a refreshed progression/trophy path and new cosmetic currencies too. According to Supercell, these changes aim to extend end-game progression, improve resource clarity, and refresh long-term goals for veteran players, while converting legacy items into the new formats so players don’t lose items. However, the outcome is nightmare for those players who have already maxed their upgrades, because more cards and gold will be required to reach the new top level, and the update changes how previously accumulated "magic" items are treated and converted. So in short, people who have just finished their upgrades, will be cooked for real on November 24.

The player response has been intense and split, with a large community expressing frustration and anger. On Reddit and other social platforms many veteran players reacted negatively because they’d only recently pushed to previous max levels; adding Level 16 makes that progress now feel "undone" and immediately extends the grind. Many content creators and streamers amplified the backlash by publishing emotional takes and guides, and Reddit threads show both calls for boycotts and practical advice on whether to delay upgrades until the patch hits. At the same time, some outlets and creators framed the update as a manageable change that reduces upgrade complexity in the long run and can make Wild Cards more valuable as well.

Level 16 is a big structural update as it extends the top end of progression while changing how upgrade materials work. Players now have to take time and grind even more to max their upgrades. Anyway, what do you guys think of this new upcoming update of Clash Royale? Let us know your own thoughts on this topic in the comments.
