Resident Evil Requiem has officially become the fastest-selling entry in the 30-year history of the Resident Evil Series. This game was released on February 27, 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). Over five million units were sold in fewer than five days. As of March 16, 2026, total worldwide sales have now surpassed six million units.
Capcom officially confirmed the six-million milestone in a press release on the same day as the Resident Evil 30th anniversary countdown events began in earnest. Metacritic awarded it an aggregate critic score of 88, placing it as the best-reviewed game of 2026 upon its release.
Its user score of 9.5 currently ties it with "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," surpassing other beloved titles like "Metal Gear Solid," "The Witcher 3," and "Silent Hill 2." The game's commercial selling had been set deliberately high by Capcom through a multi-platform strategy.
Requiem Performed Across Every Market:
In Japan, where this game was introduced, physical retail sales were tracked between February 23 and March 1, 2026, with 155,373 units sold in the PS5 version, and 38,793 physical copies were sold in the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Its 194,166 physical units combined in a single week.
In the West (Europe & North America), Resident Evil Requiem became one of the best-selling digital games on the PlayStation Store for February 2026. In the UK specifically, it topped the PS Store digital charts, which happened in less than 48 hours of availability in the sales tracking period.
Resident Evil Requiem reached over 5 million wishlists across all platforms - with 2.5 million on Steam alone. It is not wrong to say that Resident Evil Requiem is currently the second most wanted game in the world for 2026, which is beaten only by Grand Theft Auto 6. The game reached a Steam peak concurrent player count of 344,214, which is more than previous Steam peak set by Resident Evil Village at 106,631, and more than double the record set by RE4 Remake.

How Requiem Stacks Up:

The speed comparison is the most striking data point. Resident Evil Village, which was considered an enormous commercial success in 2021, required five months to accumulate five million sales. Similarly, Resident Evil 4 Remake which was one of the most acclaimed releases of 2023, achieved the same figure in approximately three months.
But, Requiem did it in under five days. Requiem has already surpassed the lifetime sales of Dragon's Dogma 2 within Capcom's all-time bestseller list, and it entered the ranks of Capcom's top-20 highest-selling games during its first week alone. Requiem's Metacritic score of 88 places it as the best-reviewed mainline Resident Evil game.
Requiem dramatically outperforms everything else in the franchise. Its Metacritic user score of 9.5 represents highest ever recorded for a Resident Evil game, that is surpassing the previous series record held by Resident Evil 4 (original), and doing so within few days of launch. The main reason for this massive performance is the audience revisiting Leon S. Kennedy after a 14-year absence.

The Story Expansion:
On March 10, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem game director "Koshi Nakanishi" appeared in a video message posted to Capcom's official social media channels, where he thanked players for pushing the game past five million sales and he also announced the roadmap of post-launch content. He revealed that the additional content is already in development.
Nakanishi stated that the team is "hard at work on it now" and that it will "delve deeper into the world of Requiem," adding only that "it will take some time" and asking for fan patience. The director confirmed two nearer-term additions: a "Photo Mode" arriving in an upcoming patch, and a new "Mini-game" set for the May 2026 update.
In the past, Resident Evil 7 received two major expansions: "End of Zoe" and "Not a Hero," and Resident Evil Village received the "Winters' Expansion," which introduced Shadows of Rose. Most notably, the Resident Evil 4 Remake received "Separate Ways," which is a substantial DLC chapter.
Industry insiders and leakers, including the generally reliable source known as Dusk Golem, have reported that Leon S. Kennedy will be the primary focus of the expansion's playable content, which is obviously due to his 14-year absence before Requiem.
Leaked information from other sources suggests a potential mid-to-late 2026 release window for the expansion. However, Capcom has made no official statements on timing.
