On December 25, 2025, a widespread interruption has affected multiple online platforms and millions of users are reporting issues like login failures, connection errors, queue delays, and complete service downtime across major games and services. This disruption occurred because of problems with "Amazon Web Services" (AWS). AWS is the cloud infrastructure provider that hosts significant backend systems for many internet companies. Reports have confirmed that this is not isolated to one game or platform but a broader internet service disruption.
Reasons:-
The cause of the outage seems to be a failure or disruption in cloud infrastructure services provided by 'AWS', which dozens of games and apps rely on to handle several services, such as - login authentication, matchmaking, databases, and communication between players and servers, and more. So, when AWS faces a technical issue (like increased error rates, routing failures, or subsystem problems), the dependent services can’t function normally. Even earlier, AWS outages have historically impacted services from Snapchat and Reddit to Fortnite and Roblox. Another reason might be heavy holiday usage, which can push systems beyond expected loads and exacerbate instability.

When it might be Fixed?
There's no official timeline for a full resolution has been announced by AWS itself or the affected service providers. In past AWS incidents, major outages have taken anywhere from tens of minutes to several hours to be fixed depending on the cause and severity. However, platforms often begin restoring partial service incrementally before full stability returns, as seen in previous incidents where services came back online gradually.
Major and Minor Services impacted by the Outage:-
Confirmed Major Affected Services are as follows:
1) Fortnite
2) ARC Raiders
3) Rocket League
4) Steam
5) PlayStation Network (PSN)
Minor and Reported Issues:
Community reports note issues with login systems, matchmaking, and queue times across multiple platforms and geographic regions, potentially due to shared cloud infrastructure problems.
Today is Christmas Day and it's understandable how most of people enjoy this day in many ways as well as playing several games online, and we know about recent PS Holiday Sale. With such outage, users might not able to properly access major and minor platforms. What do you guys suggest to others to do instead of spending this holiday playing games? Let us know your answers in the comments.
