Valve which is the company behind 'Steam' and the hugely successful 'Steam Deck' has officially announced a brand new "Steam Machine" that's scheduled to launch in the year 2026. As many people know that Valve already tried making this before in back 2015 with a line of third-party-built devices, also called as Steam Machines, which were not successful. However, this is the Valve's renewed attempt at bringing a living-room gaming PC/console hybrid to the market, leveraging the lessons learned from earlier Steam Machines as well as the success of the Steam Deck. Instead of partnering with outside manufacturers, this time, Valve is building this device itself, with a cube-shaped chassis designed to sit comfortably next to your TV or monitor.
This machine is intended to let gamers play the entire Steam library seamlessly and with the support for modern gaming features like 4K resolution, ray tracing, and SteamOS’s flexible interface. Valve has also paired this announcement with the reveal of a new Steam Controller and a Steam Frame VR headset as well. But, the company hasn’t shared a precise release date yet, it has said the Steam Machine and accompanying hardware will be available in early 2026, possibly as soon as the first quarter of the year.
Describing this 2026 Steam Machine, it is compact, cube-style gaming system running Valve’s SteamOS 3, which is an Arch-based, Linux-derived operating system optimized for gaming. Its design philosophy is closer to a living-room PC than a traditional console. You can play games from your Steam library, connect it to a TV or monitor, and even install alternative operating systems like Windows if you want full PC flexibility. Talking about its CPU and GPU, it has Semi-custom AMD Zen 4 (6 cores, 12 threads) and AMD RDNA3 GPU insanely more powerful than Valve’s Steam Deck.

About its Memory and Storage, it has a 16 GB DDR5 RAM plus 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM and for storage, there are options of 512 GB or 2 TB NVMe SSD. Its Graphics and Performance are also sweet as well as it is designed for 4K gaming at 60 FPS with ray tracing and FidelityFX Super Resolution support. Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Ethernet, multiple USB ports, DisplayPort 1.4, and HDMI 2.0 types of connectivity are available on this machine. It also has some expandability options such as some internal upgrades and storage expansion as well.
This Steam Machine was first announced on November 12, 2025 and is planned to release on early 2026. Valve has not revealed official pricing yet; However, the company said the Steam Machine will be priced more like a comparable PC than a subsidized console.
